Visit Santa Claus in Lapland

Destinations
Dec 2022

Have you heard that Santa’s home is in Lapland? The association between Lapland and Santa Claus may have crossed your radar and we are here to shed light on this association (Northern lights perhaps) and tell you what we know.

Though it extends over many territories, Finnish Lapland is described as “the home of Santa Claus, the last wilderness in Europe, and part of the Sámi homeland. Lapland is a destination above ordinary, full of contrasts and unique natural phenomena: Midnight sun, polar nights, autumn colors, northern lights, and Arctic sites nestled among Ice Age fells.” – www.lapland.fi

Lapland is clearly a fable-esque destination that leaves one filled with awe and wonder which makes it so worthy of being on top of your bucket list. It is known for its vast wilderness, the cleanest air on earth, the changing seasons (some have even listed eight seasons in Lapland), and so much more of nature’s bounty. It’s a world of its own, far far away from the world we live in…

What’s even more magical than all of this is the fact that Santa Claus lives in Lapland. Yes, the rumors are true, his address is in Finnish Lapland where you can visit him all days of the year. In case you can’t make it, you can always write a letter and send it to this address:

Santa Claus
Santa Claus’ Main Post Office
Tähtikuja 1
96930 Arctic Circle
Finland

For what happens after you write the letter, check out this site: https://www.lapland.fi/visit/only-in-lapland/how-to-write-a-letter-to-santa-claus/

Now, for those of you who actually want to meet the big guy in person, well you’re in luck!

“Santa Claus spends his time at Santa Claus Village every day of the year to take care of his mission in life; to enhance the well-being of children and the kindness of grown-ups, as well as spread the message of love and goodwill and the Christmas Spirit across the globe.” -  https://santaclausvillage.info/

So what do you fancy?

  • To hang out with the white-bearded man himself? Check!
  • To go on a reindeer-sleigh ride? Check! (and apparently there are more than 200,000 reindeer to choose from in Lapland)
  • Husky sledding? Check!
  • Wilderness dinners? Check!
  • Northern lights? If you’re in luck.
  • Snowmobile safari? Check!
  • More winter sports & fun? Absolutely!

The debate over Santa’s existence may continue for ages but what is certain is this: Finnish Lapland and Santa’s home is as magical as it gets, so it may be best to leave your cynical side behind and enjoy this wonderland and all the enchanted things it has to offer!
