Travel Insurance Now Mandatory for Travelers to Georgia

Starting January 1, 2026, all tourists entering Georgia are required to have a valid health and accident travel insurance policy for the full duration of their stay. This regulation, introduced under Georgia’s Law on Tourism, aims to ensure that visitors are protected in case of medical emergencies, accidents, or unexpected events while in the country.

The insurance policy must be issued by either a Georgian or foreign insurer, be available in English or Georgian. It must also include key details such as the insured person, coverage period, covered territory, insured risks, and policy limits.

For travelers, this is good news: all SIA Travel Insurance online plans already meet and exceed these new requirements, making it easy to comply with the law and travel with peace of mind.

For full official details, travelers can view the requirements on the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website:

With this regulation now in effect, visitors can enjoy an added layer of security, allowing them to focus on their journey from arrival to departure.
